The Advent season is over halfway through, and I have been opening my 2025 Knitty McPurly Advent boxes each and every day. The yarn is so pretty and this Advent is exactly my favorite color palette. Before I get into my Advent ideas I want to share my current projects and designs in progress.
Have you already watched the video? If not, you can watch the YouTube Video now.
Today I am wearing my Libby Shawl, knit in Awenydd Yarn and Fiber.

I am going to write up a version of this pattern where I use garter stitch instead of the k1, kb stitch. That will make this pattern a bit more accessible for all knitters. K1, kb is not hard, but it is hard to fix if you make a mistake. Substituting garter stitch makes this pattern easier for newer knitters
I have finished the knitting on my vest/slipover! I am getting the pattern ready to send to the tech editor and I need a few test knitters, so let me know if you are interested in testing this pattern. I am also working on naming this pattern and I did get some suggestions on Instagram.

The suggestions that I have gotten so far include Garden Trellis, Make Your Own Path, Cross My Heart Slipover, Challah, Quiet Fjord, Pine Shadow, Celtic Vest, Killarney, and Tracks in the Snow. Those are all good choices, but let me know if you like any of those or if you have an idea of your own. The yarn that I used for the slipover is Cascade 220 Sport in 8010 Natural and size 4 US/3.5 mm needles.
I am using the same cable pattern on the baby blanket that I am making for the grandchild that is on the way. The cable pattern is a modification of one that I got from the Norah Gaughan's Knitted Cable Sourcebook. She calls the pattern Chevron Share Tight. If you are a cable lover, this book is a really fantastic resource.
The yarn that I am using on the Baby Blanket is Berroco Comfort Worsted in the color 9712, Buttercup and I am using size 6 US/4mm needles.
I also finished a pair of socks for a Christmas present and my cousin gifts, which are I-Cord Christmas Trees. I used my electric I-cord maker, made by Caydo. I must say, I was not convinced that this machine would work before I bought it. I figured that if it did not work, I could just return in to Amazon. It works flawlessly! If you need to make a lot of I-cords, this machine is a good option for you. I have only used worsted and aran weight yarn. You can see the machine in action at 00:10:00 on the video.
Now on to the Advent ideas.

I am so excited to see the next color every day, but I don't want this to just be a bundle of beautiful mini skeins to look at. I want to actually use these skeins in a new design, and I want this design to be a good knitting pattern option for all of you to use with your yarn advent. I highlight a couple of poncho ideas in the video, but I am leaning toward a cowl knitted as a tube then grafted together at the end like the Advent Cowl Wolop.

Advent Cowl Wolop 2019 by Lieneke Bosman https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/advent-cowl-wolop-2019.
This pattern is knit in the round like s big tube then grafted together. I don't want to do stripes like these, but I think I may do a slip stitch or mosaic knitting pattern but still use this construction. Here are some examples of slip stitch patterns that I am considering.

I am lean toward the small boxes rather than the zig zags because sometimes simple is best, and I used a variation of the zig zag on one of my first patterns, the Slipped Stitch Ruffled Shawl. The yarn in this version is Knit Picks Chroma.

Keep watching this Advent/Mini Skein/Scrappy series, as I won't know what I am making until I open all of the boxes. After Christmas, I will make the final decision as to what I will make with my 2025 Knitty McPurly Advent. I want to use these 20g DK minis to their best advantage, so I am going through the design process, determining what I want to create.
