A Stretchy Bind Off

A Stretchy Bind Off

New Video Tutorial on the K2, K2tog Stretchy Bind Off

There are times when you need a stretchy bind off, like on shawls or toe up socks. I have been using the k2, k2tog bind off quite a bit lately. I have designed quite a few shawls this year, and this has become my "go to" bind off. Most shawls, especially those with lace or eyelets, grow with blocking. The bind off on the shawl needs to be stretchy enough to accommodate the shawl as it grows so that the bind off edge is not smaller or tighter than the rest of the shawl - That is not a good look!

To work the bind off:

1. Knit 2 stitches.

2. Insert the tip of the left needle into the front of the 2 stitches on the right needle, and k2tog.

3. Knit 1 stitch.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all of the stitches are bound off. When you have 1 loop left, cut the yarn and run it through the last loop. Pull until snug but not tight. Voila! You have done a k2, k2tog stretchy bind off!
