Knitting Advent Pattern Ideas You Will Love!

Here is the information and links for the Advent Patterns highlighted in the podcast, and here is the link to the podcast in case you got here before watching the video. I am wearing the Fraser Fir sweater and I am working on the Baby Surprise Jacket, a baby blanket knit in Berroco Comfort that will become a new pattern, and a vest knit in Cascade 220 Sport that will also become a new pattern.

This pattern call for 24 10g minis in fingering weight yarn. It is knit with a size 6 US/4 mm circular needle. This could easily be modified to use DK rather than fingering.  The cowl starts with a provisional cast on, and is worked in the round. At the end you graft the ends together.

Sleigh All Day uses 24 20g minis in fingering weight yarn, and you can optionally add lace weight mohair (50g.) If you want to do the brioche sections as 2 color brioche as opposed to 1 color, add a 100g tonal in a contrasting color. The needle is size 6 US/4 mm.

The Wrap is knit end to end, and the cowl is begins with a provisional cast on, worked in a tube and grafted together. Both the wrap and the cowl alternate brioche sections with various stitch patterns.

This pattern does require more yarn than most traditional advents. You could use a DK weight 24 20g Advent along with some of your leftover DK.  The yarn needed is 35-45 g per day.

You can use 24 20g minis in fingering weight or DK weight, along with 100g skein. The pattern uses fingering held double. The poncho has short row shaping at the back of the neck.  It is worked inside out, so that you can work most of the poncho using the knit stitch. Part of the shaping is due to using increasingly larger needles. The pattern begins with size 7 US/4.5 mm, moves on to size 9 US 5.5 mm, and ends with size 10.5 US/6.5 mm needles.

This pattern was written for the season of Lent rather than Advent, so it calls for 40 10g minis. you can us 24 20g minis and just not change colors quite as often! This is a triangular shaped shawl that is worked top down. The stitch pattern alternates between garter stitch and an asymmetrical lace. Use size 3 US/3.25 mm needles.

This shawl is just stunning!  It is knit from the center out. Fade into Advent is mostly garter stitch be has rays of slip stitches that radiate out from the center.  You will need 24 20g minis.
